Baby Infant DDH Orthosis – A Medical Device for the Treatment of Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip
Description
This is a certified Class 1 paediatric congenital orthosis. Made of thermoplastic material and covered with eva inside. It is an orthosis that helps to keep the hip joint in flexion and abduction to correct a baby’s unstable hip. Most commonly known as Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH). The early intervention of an orthosis like this often completely corrects the problem without surgery.
Indications & Functions
- DDH – Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (when the hip joint doesn’t develop properly)
- Hip instability or laxity
- Congenital hip dislocation or subluxation or unstable hip from birth
The orthosis holds the baby’s legs flexed and spread apart (in flexion and abduction). Thus, prevents the legs from coming together. This position helps the hip joint sit correctly in the hip socket, allowing normal development. Over time, it improves alignment and helps the joint form properly, keeping the hips in the healthiest position for growth.

Usage
This is a medical device and is typically fitted by a specialist. It should not be removed by parents, even during bathing, unless specifically advised by the clinical team. Parents should regularly check the baby’s skin for any signs of redness or soreness. Follow-up appointments are usually scheduled on a weekly or fortnightly basis to monitor progress and assess hip development.
