COZMEDIX MASSAGE THERAPY
Here at CozMedix, we call it ‘Massage Therapy’ because the massage delivered will be tailored to your specific needs, which is a combination of the DEEP TISSUE and RELAXATION. You can also choose one or the other.
At your first visit, you will complete a consultation form, followed by a short discussion about the preferred/suitable massage treatment for you. During your massage, our sports therapist will regularly check the pressure and explain areas of concern, if any. Should you require a joint assessment with exercise prescription because of a previous injury, this will take place before your massage therapy starts. Please purchase this treatment separately on our website and both will be booked in together. If unsure, call us on: 07951 762 390.

WHY DO I NEED A MASSAGE?
Massage in general can be quite beneficial for most people, especially if you are in a stressful job, sitting or standing for long periods, you workout regularly, find yourself slouching due to bad posture, have young children, carry a lot of tension or you just find it hard to relax. The body generally undergoes wear and tear from repetitive movements and can suffer from injuries. Furthermore, muscle shortening/tightness can occur from bad posture or lack of stretching. You can also experience muscle laxity if you do not exercise regularly or engage in regular muscle strengthening (our sports rehabilitator can help with taking the small steps to conditioning your body).
MASSAGE BENEFITS
Massage helps with the stimulation of sensory receptors that transmit signals to the nervous system to encourage relaxation. It can help to release endorphins which has been shown to reduce pain. Therefore, there are several physiological, psychological and physical benefits associated with having a regular massage. They include reduced inflammation and pain, lower blood pressure, healing from improved circulation and blood flow, better sleep as result of serotonin release, better body conditioning, improved flexibility, improved range of motion, injury prevention, scar tissue release, tension relief, increased energy levels, reduced muscle soreness and stiffness.
Sometimes, all you need is that one-off massage for that quick fix. However, the benefits are greater if experienced every 3 to 4 weeks for a period of time, to address any issue before it gets serious. The choice to have a massage usually depends on personal circumstances, lifestyle, occupation, leisure activities and value placed on the health benefits.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Deep tissue massage applies firm pressure with deeper, slow strokes to the deep layers of the muscle and fascia (the connective tissue that surrouns the muscles). It can be used to treat musculoskeletal issues such as strains or sports injuries. The deep pressure technique will help to address the areas of concern to bring relief to tight muscles, knots and release the connective tissues. Common areas of concern are typically neck, shoulders, back, glutes (buttocks), thigh and lower leg muscles.
A deep tissue massage should not cause so much pain that it is unbearable. Your muscles will not get much benefit from it if they are tense. Always communicate how you are feeling with our therapist during your massage session.
SPORTS & REMEDIAL MASSAGE
A sports and remedial massage is delivered as a form of body treatment usually focused on sports injuries, improving joint range of motion, for general injuries, wear and tear, repetitive sprains and strains that have built up over time in soft tissue and muscle areas. It is administered across the whole body using deep tissue massage and various therapy techniques to address muscular and joint issues. Thus, alleviates muscular tension, pain or spasm and helps to prevent muscle knots including trigger points.

RELAXATION MASSAGE
Relaxation massage at CozMedix is generally a much gentler massage but may ocassionally include some higher pressure techniques more akin to deep tissue massage. The aim is to promote relaxation and soothing effect with longer strokes to improve circulation and encourage lymphatic drainage. This is suitable for most people.
POST DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE & OTHER MASSAGES
Following a deep tissue massage, you should expect to feel revived with some positive effects in terms of your energy, sleep and mood in days to come. Initially, you may experience some tenderness in the areas that have been worked on, this is completely normal but not active pain. It is not unusual to also feel slightly nauseous immediately after your massage from increased blood flow, or experience a headache due toxins draining out of the system. Therefore, we encourage plenty of water/fluids and relaxion (nap, put your feet up, listen to some music etc.,) to further help drain the toxins leaving the body. Have a warm bath if necessary or if feeling sore, apply some ice pack where needed. Avoid doing any sporting activity or exercise for at least 24-48 hours so that your body can really benefit from the treatment. You may also feel hungry after your massage, try to eat a light, healthy meal with some protein. It is important to always maintain a healthy, balanced diet as a general rule.
